THE MASTERS
In the early 20th century in Australia, New Zealand, the US and Great Britain the Masters movement started its successful journey around the world, and it has established itself in central Europe as from about 1926, when the first ‘festive ex-champions’ meetings’ took place.
Ever since, adult swim sport has gained popularity also among the general public. Its philosophy of understanding and friendship in a competitive, international environment and its exemplary effect on young athletes has always been most valuable for almost 100 years now and contributed to the Masters’ excellent reputation.
In 1991, the Masters Team of Swimming Luxembourg was founded by Olaf Chalmer and Trevor O’Brian to provide working professionals with a means of combining their professional lives with swimming in competitions.
These days, the Luxembourg Masters count around 40 active swimmers of many different nationalities and thus truly represent both the local and international communities of the Grand-Duchy.
Independent of age, origin, social-or sportive background, we come together to share our passion for the ‘wet element’ and practise swimming, more or less competitively as members of the Luxembourg Masters.
Friendship, support and motivation are important values- in victory and defeat, real champions and newcomers on all levels of performance. This is the spirit of the Masters.
